REVEALING ROOTS

TEXTILE DESIGN GRADUTE COLLECTION

SCREEN PRINTED TABLE LINENS

Reaving Roots is a textiles graduate collection of screen-printed table linens, all dyed and printed with natural botanical dyes onto unbleached linen. Floral prints of Scottish plants are featured in a variety of colours and compositions, narrating the story of Scottish wildlife and almost lost traditions. Designed to bring elements of the outside world into dining areas at home, these prints celebrate nature and the possibilities of sustainable, plant-based textiles that are good for the environment and elevate the home.

Natural Dyes

Every single dye and print in this collection is made with natural dyes, whether it be the base or the print. This responsible design choice tackles the issues of chemical dyes and encourages a more sustainable way of living. Local colour is explored throughout, from considering where dyes come from to depicting the flower of the dye through illustrations and prints.

FLAX AND LINEN

Unbleached 100% linen and donated 125-year-old flax are used as the only materials in this collection, alongside the natural dyes. Together, they create completely natural table linens that are biodegradable but built to last. The flax once belonged to a woman named Juliane Leitgeb, who received it as her dowry in 1899, being the only item she could call her own. This collection reveals this heritage and the traditional methods of processing flax.

TRACEABILITY

Traceability and transparency of materials have been considered at every stage of making in this collection. This encourages a more ethical production line in the textiles industry.
